Dinner Table Photos: Evening Light and a Social Setting
Evening light, social setting.
This is the closest thing to a photo of the date already happening. A table outside, warm light, a laugh mid-conversation. It puts the viewer in the seat opposite you, which is the most useful thing a photo can do on an app built around meeting people.
Other people matter here and don't need to be readable. Blurred company at the edge of frame communicates the whole thing without turning it into a guessing game.
What to wear
- Evening casual: a shirt or a good knit, nothing that reads as office
- Warmer tones, which sit inside restaurant lighting instead of going grey
- One layer over the top, since outdoor tables are cold and a jacket on the chair back adds to the scene
When to shoot it, and the light
Just after sunset, when there is still light in the sky and the table lights are on. Full dark forces the phone into flash, and flash at a dinner table is the least flattering light there is.
The mistake that ruins this shot
The posed toast to camera. Photograph the conversation instead: mid-laugh, looking slightly off-lens, someone's shoulder in the foreground.
Where it goes in your profile
Third or fourth. Warm and social, and best placed once the viewer already knows what you look like.
